Senior year reflection

Before this year i had never taken an art class before. I took it because i wanted to make things like i had seen previous students make.In the begining i was not very good at art. I tried to make my art like everyone elses but thenas the year went on i began to develope myown style. For the second half of the year i was very excited to goto art and work on projects. I am going to miss art i really enjoyed it.I will definatly continue practicing my art skills through college.I am soglad i took art this year,i learned so much about myself.

Ceramics in progress

Above is a picture of my ceramics project in progress. We were assigned to make a place setting paying tribute to someone. My place setting is for my mom. My bowl is going to be representing a flower which symbolizes growth and how my mother turned our broken family into a strong and healthy family. The flower symbolizes growth. The plan for my plate is going to be two hands, symbolizing my moms hands, holding two little flowers, symbolizing me and my sister. I don't have a plan yet for my cup but i hope to be inspired soon.
Working with the clay is very aggrivating. If you don't "slip and score" a piece of clay enough it will fall off what your trying to connect it to. My problem is that my clay keeps getting to dry and its cracking. I haven't gotten the hang of clay yet but i hope i will soon because im very excited to begin actually making all the ideas i've been thinking of.

Metals

I really enjoyed working with the metals unit. So far it was my favorite thing we have done all year long. I loved how hard it was to cut through the metal but the feeling when completing a piece was just so satisfying. The one thing about my piece that i was not happy with was the fact that when we torched it the pieces moved around and some were not in the right places. I like the way the dirty metal looks. Every piece had its own unique pattern on it which was really cool to see. Overall i am very happy with my work.

Finished self portrait

Above is a picture taken of my finished self portrait. I am happy and unhappy with some things about this picture. I know i did a really good job and i worked really hard. My hair and my mouth are some things i am very proud of. I think my expression however looks dull and plain. I wish the portrait looked a little more like me. If i could do it over i would probably chose a more lively picture of me but overall im happy with the hard work i put into it.

Metals

We just started a metals unit this week in class. Unlike other projects i got the hang of this one very easily. It did not take long for me to come up with a design that i love. I like this unit because it is very rewarding. After spending a class period struggling to cut one little piece of metal and then its finally cut is a great feeling.
First we made prototypes out of paper before we started using metals.
After we made paper prototypes we began sawing into the metals to make our shapes for our designs.

Collage

The collage was a hard project for me to get the hang of. At first i felt like i was just putting meaningless objects on paper. It felt forced and i wasnt really feeling inspired. It wasnt until almost everyone was done when i finally got the hang of it.At one point i almost threw out my collage because compared to everyone elses i hated it.But after stepping away for awhile and coming back too it i realized that i did like my collage and that it had a lot of meaning to me.
